Labs, imaging and pharmacies near Detroit.

Blood work ordered during your visit can be drawn at a hospital lab, such as the Lab Service Center on the Henry Ford Hospital campus on West Grand Boulevard, or at a Quest Diagnostics draw site. Imaging such as X-rays, ultrasound, CT and MRI can be scheduled through Henry Ford Hospital’s imaging department or another hospital system you already use. Walgreens lists Detroit stores. Rite Aid closed every Michigan pharmacy in 2024, so if your prescriptions were there, tell us where they moved.

Conditions and services listed here are examples. An appointment does not guarantee a particular diagnosis, a prescription, a controlled medication, hormone therapy, a lab order, an imaging study, a sleep study, a specialist referral, an accommodation letter or a particular treatment. Treatment decisions follow a clinical evaluation and the provider’s judgment.

Getting care in Detroit

Michigan’s largest city, growing again after decades of decline, with the state’s densest concentration of hospitals but deep neighborhood-level shortages of primary and mental health care.

Detroit has more hospital capacity than anywhere else in Michigan, yet getting a routine appointment is still hard in many neighborhoods. HRSA lists 18 primary care and 19 mental health shortage designations in Wayne County, including low-income shortage areas covering east, west and southwest Detroit. A video visit with Charles Wade, FNP-BC, lets you handle primary care, mental health, ADHD, weight management, skin problems and sick visits from home or a break room.

He can order blood work and imaging to be done near you and send prescriptions to the pharmacy you already use. If something needs hands-on care, he will say so and point you to a clinic or emergency department in the city rather than guess.

Access in Wayne County

HRSA data (downloaded October 2026) show 18 designated primary care HPSAs and 19 mental health HPSAs in Wayne County, including low-income population HPSAs for East Detroit (mental health score 20), West Detroit (21) and Southwest Detroit (16); Detroit FQHCs carry primary care HPSA scores of 20-24. ACS 2024 1-year: 7.5% of Detroit residents uninsured; 7.3% of households with no internet subscription and 90.1% with broadband (older 2013 data showed about 40% without internet). Rite Aid’s 2024 exit removed pharmacies citywide.

Who this helps most in Detroit

Telehealth fits Detroit adults and children ages five and older who need a dependable prescriber for blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, anxiety, depression or ADHD and cannot easily take time off or cross the city for a visit. Detroit’s asthma burden is far above the state average, so asthma check-ins and refills are a common reason to book. It also works for shift workers who need follow-up outside business hours.

Go in person instead when you need a physical exam, a procedure, vaccines or a child’s blood lead test, which the Detroit Health Department offers. Call 911 or go to an emergency department such as Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit Receiving or Sinai-Grace for chest pain, trouble breathing, stroke signs, severe injury or thoughts of harming yourself.

Local health considerations

  • Asthma: MDHHS’s 2021 Detroit asthma update found adult asthma prevalence 46% above the statewide rate (2017-2019), child prevalence 14.6% vs 8.4% statewide, and asthma hospitalization rates at least four times the Michigan rate (2016-2019).
  • Childhood lead: the Detroit Health Department runs a Childhood Lead Prevention Program and a Lead Reduction Task Force targeting a 50% cut in elevated blood-lead cases and 50% testing rates by 2027.
  • Hospital capacity is shifting: Henry Ford Health broke ground on a $2.2B expansion that will more than double its Detroit emergency department (opening planned 2029), and took over operation of eight Ascension hospitals (renamed Henry Ford) in 2024.
