Conditions and services listed here are examples. An appointment does not guarantee a particular diagnosis, a prescription, a controlled medication, hormone therapy, a lab order, an imaging study, a sleep study, a specialist referral, an accommodation letter or a particular treatment. Getting care in Prescott

A mile-high former territorial capital and one of the country’s most retiree-heavy metro areas.

Prescott and Prescott Valley have one of the oldest populations of any U.S. metro area, with about 35 percent of residents 65 or older, and Yavapai County remains short of primary care physicians and psychiatrists by federal measure. That combination means long waits for new patients, especially for anyone managing several conditions. Wade’s Care First offers video visits for primary care, geriatric concerns, sleep problems, mood and memory changes, weight management and minor illnesses, with labs, imaging and prescriptions arranged locally.

If you are a veteran, the Northern Arizona VA in Prescott remains your primary system; telehealth can complement it. Anything that needs a physical exam, a procedure or hands-on assessment is referred to Yavapai Regional Medical Center or a local clinic.

Access in Yavapai County

Yavapai County needs an estimated 15.3 more primary care physician FTEs and 4.0 psychiatrist FTEs under HRSA criteria. About 35.3% of the Prescott Valley–Prescott metro population was 65 or older in 2024, roughly double the national share, and the city’s median age is 59.7, which drives demand for geriatric, cardiac and chronic-disease care. Both YRMC campuses are Level IV trauma centers, meaning serious trauma is stabilized and transferred to Phoenix or Flagstaff. Arizona’s uninsured rate was 10.3% in 2024.

Who this helps most in Prescott

Telehealth is well suited to Prescott-area retirees who no longer drive comfortably, caregivers managing a spouse’s conditions, people in Chino Valley, Dewey-Humboldt or the outlying ranch areas, and working adults in Prescott Valley. It fits blood pressure and diabetes follow-up, sleep and insomnia care, depression and anxiety, skin checks, ADHD, and medication management. It is not for emergencies. Yavapai Regional Medical Center’s two campuses are Level IV trauma centers that stabilize and transfer the most serious cases, so for chest pain, stroke symptoms, a bad fall with head injury or hip pain, or sudden breathing trouble, call 911 right away rather than waiting for a video appointment. Falls and new confusion in older adults should be evaluated in person the same day.

Local health considerations

  • Retiree population: 35.3% of the Prescott Valley–Prescott metro area was 65+ in 2024 versus 18% nationally (USAFacts, Census data); Prescott’s median age is 59.7 (Data USA).
  • Trauma access: YRMC West and East are Level IV trauma centers; the nearest Level I centers are in Phoenix and Flagstaff (ADHS designated trauma centers list, Dec. 2025).
  • Veteran population: the Northern Arizona VA Health Care System is headquartered in Prescott with a 24/7 emergency department and clinics across northern Arizona (VA; Arizona Center for Rural Health).
